This series consists of papers relating to medical and legal matters. Records pertaining to medical matters contain notes, letters, memoranda, and reports mainly concerning Robert E. Peary and his family. There are also letters received relating to Charles Percy. Papers about legal matters include patent correspondence with brokers and solicitors, in particular about Robert E. Peary's invention of lock gates, sinking piles, and "arctic coat." Included in legal documents are also land lease and title papers; ship, personnel, lecture, and publication contracts; papers relating to litigation involving Peary, including the Rudolph Franke case; and a copy of Peary's last will and testament.

Robert Edwin Peary Sr. (born May 6, 1856, Cresson, Pennsylvania – died February 20, 1920, Washington, D.C.) was an American explorer and United States Navy officer who made several expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
